Craig's Reminder - Remember Them

At the end of September, across from Federal Hall in lower Manhattan, I ran into Craig, a Scotsman with a very cool and powerful tattoo on his lower left leg:

Craig served seven and a half years with the Highlanders, a Scottish Infantry regiment. His duty took him to Iraq, Afghanistan and "a residential tour of the Falklands, as well."

His tattoo serves "to remember fallen comrades" and was inked by Jim at Owlcat Artist Collective in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Thanks to Craig for his service and for sharing his tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Abby's Code, with a Touch of Whimsy

I met Abby in September 2015 in Bowling Green Park.

She shared this tattoo on her arm:

Abby explained:
"the lettering was the original tattoo and that was [done] by Chris Gasca in Las Vegas [he was at Steadfast Tattoo and is now at Classic Tattoo]…..the majority of it with the girl and the design is by King Ruck at Red Elephant Tattoo in Las Vegas.”
She added:

“… I lived in Nottingham, England for a year, so the lettering is a postal code of where I lived and originally it was just the lettering and it just ... wasn’t what I wanted it to be, and so there is not necessarily a specific significance to the rest of the design, it’s just that I liked that it’s very whimsical and abstract and very light, which is what I wanted.”
Note that King Ruck was a competitor on Spike TV's Ink Master.

Toby's Tattoo is Fin-Tastic!

Back in October, I met Toby in Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan:

He shared this cool tattoo:

Toby hails from Switzerland. "I lived in New York for one year, but I moved back in February," he told me.

Toby's hobbies include scuba diving and music, so he incorporated both into his body art.

He described this as "a whale shark fin, as imagined by the artist."

He elaborated, telling me it is a "Maori, Polynesian, tribal-style whale shark fin, ending in a [musical] note key … because I’m a musician, as well … combination of both hobbies.”

He credited the work to Edwin at Royal Flush Tattoo in Thun, Switzerland.

Thanks to Toby for sharing this great tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Julianna, Snow White, and Temptation

One of the last tattoos I spotted in 2015 was this Snow White piece on Julianna, who I met on the steps of Federal Hall:

Julianna explained what compelled her to get this Snow White tattoo:
"It’s the story behind it, about how it’s the story of temptation,  how ... Snow White’s known as the most beautiful [and]  how eating the poison apple [represents] temptation; it’s like Yin and Yang but like a different kind of story towards it.”

She credited Jay at Lucky Van's Tattoo in San Francisco with tattooing this work.

Thanks to Juliana for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!
