Dylan and the Black Pearl

At the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo (@nyempirestatetattooexpo) a couple weekends back, I met Dylan, who shared this amazing tattoo:

Dylan credited this work to Paul Tochluk (@tochlukdesigns) at The Abyss Fine Art and Tattoo Studio (@abyssartstudiolbny).

This amazing black and gray work is a nod to pirates, as the ship at the top of the design is the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow's ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

Thanks to Dylan for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Angela, a Peacock and Sisterly Feathers

Today is my sister Alicia's birthday and, although she doesn't have any tattoos, she loves peacocks, and this story involves a sister, so it seemed an appropriate post for the occasion.

Back in May, I was in Herndon, Virginia, for a work training and I was hanging out with one of my colleagues, Angela, who has lots of ink, including this lovely peacock and pair of butterflies on her back:

Angela credited Daniel Baker (@danielbakertattoos) from Tattoorolo in Corning, New York, with this lovely work.

She also has the lovely feather on her leg:

Angela explained first about the feather, which she got inked up n Rochester:
"My sister and I were getting matching tattoos and ... we went with a feather idea and she didn't care what feather and I said well I'd really like just a peacock feather.  Since I got the peacock tattoo on my back ... people are inundating me with peacock stuff, family and friends ... I like it. So I was like I just want an individual feather. She wasn't 100% wanting an individual feather and she loves octopus, so she got an octopus tentacle on her leg in the same spot, but in the middle of the octopus tentacle, she got a design that looks like the eye of the peacock feather ... so that was out 'matching' sister tattoos, if you will, with our own individuality in the tattoos."
Angela sent me a photo of the companion tattoos below:

Thanks to Angela for sharing her cool tattoos with us here on Tattoosday, and for letting me share them on my sister's birthday too!

The work is by Legion (@legion_avegno) from Fallen Sparrow Tattoos (@fallensparrowtattoos) in Kissimmee, Florida. We've featured work from Legion before here.

Thanks to Tony for sharing this with us here on Tattoosday!

We certainly hope to see more work from Legion in the future!

Skull Time (2018 Empire State Tattoo Expo)

I posted this on Instagram (@tattoosday) last week when attending the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo (@nyempirestatetattooexpo), but I wanted to get it up on the official Tattoosday site as well.

I never caught the name of the woman who got this on her thigh, but she was kind enough to allow me to share it:

This piece was freshly-inked by Zach Smith (@profet_ink) from Profet Ink Tattoo Studio in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. You can watch Zach at work on his YouTube channel here.

I like the combination/juxtaposition of the skull, the rose, and the Roman numerals of time. It's just a really cool design and masterfully executed.

Thanks to Zach and his client for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Remembering Chester

Chester Bennington (@chesterbe) from Linkin Park (@linkinpark) died a year ago today.

Earlier this month, I met Nicole at the Summer Vibe Tattoo Convention on Long Island and she shared this fascinating dot-work tribute to the singer:

Nicole was a huge fan of Linkin Park and Bennington and got this tattoo the night after he died. It's a huge thigh piece that appears differently, depending on the angle you;re viewing it. She credited the artist Ilya Cascad (@ilyacascad) with the work, noting it was seven hours in the making.

Thanks to Nicole for sharing this amazng tribute with us here on Tattoosday!

Kevin Shares Amazing Work by Jacob Sheffield

Last weekend I spotted this gorgeous tattoo at the 2018 Empire State Tattoo Convention (@nyempirestatetattooexpo):

When I asked Kevin (@kevbo.smith_tattoos), whose leg this was on, what it represented, he said, "It's a tesseract." His artist, Jacob Sheffield, then said to me, "It's not a tesseract."

Either way, it's a work of art, and stunning.

Jacob Sheffield (@jacobsheffieldtattoos) works out of Elysium Studios in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Thanks to Kevin and Jacob for sharing this amazing work with us here on Tattoosday!

Bonnie's Tattoos (Tattoosday Goes to Oklahoma City)

This past March, Tattoosday took a road trip, traversing the nation, driving from Virginia to California. There were some sunny days, but the chill of spring was still in the air, so I didn't get to meet a lot of folks with tattoos, but we had one encounter in Oklahoma City where it ll came together.

We had stopped for lunch at The Loaded Bowl, when Melanie spotted a heavily-tattooed woman with a Beavis and Butthead tattoo. This provided an excellent opportunity to strike up a conversation with Bonnie Blackwolf (@heavymetalhousewife), who shared several of her pieces, including this, the most noticeable one:

Bonnie told us that she got this band of wolves teeth in Portland, Oregon. She told us that the strings of teeth actually run to the sides of her head, that she had the sides shaved at the time, so the tattoo is not just the front of her head.

Here's the Beavis and Butthead tattoo that, she told us, got her more free drinks in bars than you could imagine:

That piece reads "Thrashin' Since '87."

Bonnie, who plays bass in a Death Metal band called Death Squad, also shared this cool burning church tattoo on her upper back and neck:

Uhellig translates to unholy in Norwegian.

Last among the tattoos Bonnie shared with us was this piece on her leg:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Bonnie told me, is one of her favorite movies, and August 29, 1997 is listed as the day that a nuclear holocaust led to the rise of the machines. She got this on August 29, 2017, on the twentieth anniversary of Judgment Day.

Thanks to Bonnie for sharing her cool tattoos with us back in March at The Loaded Bowl in Oklahoma City!

Brooke's Castle

I met Brooke at the Summer Vibe tattoo convention earlier this month, and she shared these cool tattoos on the backs of her legs:

Brooke told me this is a depiction of a castle in Italy, and credited her artist Tattman Ceez (@tattman ceez), who works out of Craft Kingz Tattoo @craft_kingz_tattoo_shop in Baldwin, New York.

Julio Rocks An Amazing Graphic Chest Tattoo

Earlier this month, at the Summer Vibe tattoo convention on Long Island, I met Julio, who was sporting about 22 hours worth of work on this amazing geometric chest tattoo:

Along with Julio, I met the artist responsible for this, Jon Black (@jon._.black), from Miami Tattoo Company (@miamitattooco) in Florida.

Jon told me that this was a cover-up, as well. Before Jon had started his graphic tattoo mastery on Julio's chest, the phrase "only the strong" had been emblazoned there.

Thanks to Julio and his artist Jon for sharing this amazing work with us here on Tattoosday!

Jon's Clipper Ship

Earlier this month, at the Summer Vibe Tattoo Festival on Long Island, I met Jon, who shared this great tattoo:

That's a depiction of the Cutty Sark, one of the most famous clipper ships. I was really taken by the colors the artist used. The blue, especially, really pops on this piece.

Jon credited Bobby Petraglia (@tat2bob) out of Skin Deep Tattoo (@skindeeptattoony) in Uniondale, with this fine naval tattoo.

Thanks to Jon for sharing this cool piece with us here on Tattoosday!

Katie's Spectacular Qilin

Earlier this month at the Summer Vibe Tattoo Show on Long Island, I met "Katie Kahboom," who had this back piece done simultaneously by two artists at once!

This Qilin, often called a Kirin, is a mythical Asian creature that is a mash-up of sorts, a chimera with dragon features and those of another, usually a hooved beast like a giraffe.

This was the combined work of JK (@jktattoony) and Andy Jung (@andyjungtattoo), who work out of World Famous Tattoo Art Gallery (@worldfamoustattooartgallery) in West Babylon, New York.

Thanks to Katie and her team of artists for sharing this amazing work with us here on Tattoosday!

Julia's Leg by Raul Wesche

Last weekend at the Summer Vibe Tattoo Festival on Long Island, I met Julia, who had just had her leg adorned the night before:

The artist behind this is Raul Wesche (@WescheTattoo). Check him out on Instagram, his work is quite incredible. He does wonders with dotwork and patterns. I enjoyed meeting him and leafing through his book at the convention.

Thanks to Julia and Raul for sharing their work with us here on Tattoosday!

Last weekend at the Summer Vibe Tattoo Festival on Long Island, I met Chris, who shared her amazing back piece:

This incredible landscape is the work of Luke LoPorto (@LukeLoporto) from Timmy Tattoo (@timmy_tattoo_shop) on Long Island.

This amazing work rightfully garnered a first place trophy for black and gray work at the convention!

Jeremy's Patriotic Hands

My friend Jeremy has a ton of tattoos and has contributed previously to Tattoosday. He recently got some incredible work done and it seemed appropriate to share it today, Independence Day:

Those are, by far, some of the best hand tattoos I have ever seen, and I've seen a few! The detail and color in both the American flag and the bald eagle are spectacular!

I had the pleasure of meeting the artist behind these hand tattoos last weekend at the Summer Vibe Tattoo and Arts Festival on Long Island last weekend.

The work is by Jon Ronzka (@jonronzka), out of Sink or Swim Tattoo (@sink_or_swim_tattoo) in Matthews, North Carolina, who was visiting Amity Irons Tattoo (@amityironstattoo) in Amityville, New York.

Thanks to Jeremy for sharing his hands with us! Happy Independence Day from Tattoosday!

Joseph and His American Eagle

On this day before Independence Day, let's celebrate some good old American traditional ink, like this awesome eagle on the chest of Joseph, who I ran into last month at the Whitehall subway station:

Joseph, who shared some other work that will appear at a later date, credited this particular piece to Joseph Kindya (@joekindyatattoo), owner of Brooklyn Ink in Bay Ridge.

Thanks to both Josephs for their contribution, and we here at Tattoosday wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July tomorrow!

An Award-Winning Crane by CJ Tattoo

This past weekend I went to the Summer Vibe tattoo show at the Nassau Coliseum and saw a lot of amazing tattoos. One of the most impressive ones was this gigantic thigh/hip piece on Ling (@lingjin_tattoo):

This stunning crane with peonies won "Best Color Tattoo" on day 2 of the show. I was fortunate enough to get to take a photo and meet the artist, CJ (@cj.tattoo), of CJ Tattoo in the East Village, NYC.

Definitely check out CJ Tattoo's site and follow him in Instagram. His work is amazing!

Thanks to Ling and CJ for sharing this incredible artwork with us here on Tattoosday!
